Buenos Aires, June 212019

The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) held the XXXVII Meeting of its Board of Directors in Buenos Aires at San Martín Palace on Friday, June 21. It was attended by Argentina’s Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Cabinet Chief, Martín Casares; Undersecretary of Justice and Criminal Policy Juan José Benítez; and Justice 2020 Program Coordinator Héctor Chayer, who welcomed the Board members who attended the bi-annual meeting.

The meeting also featured the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Argentine Magistrates’ and Judicial Function Federation (FAM), represented by its President, Dr. Ariel Ariza, and JSCA, represented by Executive Director Dr. Jaime Arellano.

They agreed to several initiatives, including joint sponsorship of conferences, seminars, workshops and other academic meetings or events on justice, democracy and similar topics. Such activities will open up spaces for discussion and the exchange of experiences. The agreement also provides for the regular exchange of information, including bibliographic material, research, statistical information, databases and others that are of mutual interest.

The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) is an autonomous international agency that was created in 1999 by the institutions of the Inter-American system. It is headquartered in Santiago de Chile, and its members are all of the active members of the Organization of American States (OAS).

JSCA’s mission is to support justice system reform and modernization processes in the Americas. To that end, it develops training activities, research and empirical studies, among other actions.

The FAM is an associative institution that represents over 15,700 magistrates and officials from all jurisdictions. It is comprised of associations of magistrates and officials from Argentina’s 23 provinces and the city of Buenos Aires.

The agreement was signed in Salón Cedro at San Martín Palace in the presence of JSCA Board President Dr. Daniel Petrone, the witness of honor, in the context of the XXXVIII Meeting of the JSCA Board of Directors.
